Hi! We are Chad and Monica (AKA Momica) Cole – – – A mother and son duo passionate about health and wellness.
Before writing this blog post we had outlined everything we wanted to talk about, but coming up with these first two paragraphs has been a struggle.
How do you blog anyways??!! You see, we aren’t the most tech savvy people and have never been ones to share our lives with everyone.
But here we are… on a blog… sharing our lives… with EVERYONE.
We wouldn’t do this unless we felt it was necessary. We believe our perspective is unique and with our experience we can help a lot of people live happier, healthier lives.
We have owned a gym (CrossFit Apollo) together since 2011 and have learned a lot working with hundreds of clients.
Habitap.com is the accumulation of our knowledge and experience in the health and fitness industry.
In the last 10 years we have done numerous challenges and nutrition programs to help our clients achieve their health and fitness goals.
- Intermittent fasting
You name it, we’ve tried it.
Guess what? They all worked!
Almost everyone saw great success BUT…. Shortly after, they relapsed and went back to their old ways.
This is because each of these programs requires an immediate and dramatic shift in our current lifestyles.
These changes were sustainable for the short term, but as soon as the program/challenge was over, people lost motivation and went back to eating pizza for breakfast.
We were tired of putting our clients through Yo-Yo diets and decided to create a solution.
Drum roll please!!!
Long story longer… This is when Habitap was created.
The Habitap Challenge is our solution. We take 6 lifestyle practices and break them down, one by one, during a 10-week period.
We believe that by slowing things down and taking time to REALLY make a habit a part of our lifestyle, we can create lasting success.
This post isn’t to sell you on our program. That’s what the website is for.
But we want to give you a quick intro as to who we are and why each of us feels so passionately about this project.
I have always been into health and wellness. Growing up playing baseball, I used working out and eating well (ish) to help set myself apart on the field.
I played one year of college ball before I decided to walk away and focus solely on my education.
It was around this time that I began doing CrossFit with my family in my parent’s garage. It didn’t take long before the entire neighborhood was coming over to workout.
I was in my senior year at UNLV when I decided to ditch classes and write a business plan. I never did graduate college.
Shortly after, we opened CrossFit Apollo. It’s crazy to think about now but I was only 21 at the time.
In 2013 I married my dream girl. I always had a crush on her in high school but she didn’t know I existed until she walked into our gym one day.
In 2015 I qualified to compete at the CrossFit Games where I took 20th in the world. It was a pretty incredible experience and one of my proudest accomplishments.
The commitment it takes to be one of the best at anything is astronomical. The time taken to train for the CrossFit Games was pulling me away from my real passion: Helping others and growing our business.
Since stepping back I have had ZERO regrets. It’s one of the best decisions I have made.
Personal success is gratifying for a short time. Helping others succeed is lasting happiness.
Growing up my parents instilled in me that giving service to others is not only an obligation of those who have been given much but also a reward in itself.
Starting Habitap is our way of reaching a larger audience than what is possible within the four walls of our gym.
By going online and sharing our knowledge with the world, there is no telling how many people we can help.
I’m a native Las Vegan and mother of 7 children. 4 girls and 3 boys. In that order.
I’ve always been an entrepreneur. Our family was in construction and Real Estate for 30 years.
We began doing CrossFit in our home garage. There were a lot of people coming over to work out with us on a regular basis so we started entertaining the idea of opening our own gym.
That became a reality in 2011. I was 50 then. That momentous decision has set us on a path of health and wellness that has not only improved our lives but the lives of 100s of our clients.
Most people think because I own a gym and do all this fitness stuff I’ve always been a health nut. That makes me chuckle. I come from a generation that only cared if you were skinny. Health wasn’t even discussed.
In “my day” if you wanted to lose weight you just starved yourself. Easy.
I have always been really active but haven’t done much in the way of sports or going to the gym. I always ate what I wanted but ate very little of it, unless I was in starvation mode of course.
I worked out here and there but I figured chasing 7 crazy kids was enough exercise. They were VERY active.
Once I started doing CrossFit I GOT MUSCLES! WHAT?! I have biceps and everything. It’s pretty cool.
Anyway, I was getting stronger but the engine (cardio) just wasn’t happening. I kept waiting to “get in shape”. Well, guess what? I was living on stuff like pizza and Snickers blizzards. Yum.
I was one of those that would say, “I workout so I can eat what I want.” I wasn’t overweight so it must be ok right?
Nope. I finally had to start giving some thought to the type of fuel I put in my body.
Holy Moly! What a difference. Now you add sleep and water and the world is your oyster my friend! I want the whole world to feel this great!
We are 2 people with different perspectives. Young/Not so young, Competitive/not competitive, Loves working out/yuck to working out, Embraced a healthy lifestyle/came into it kicking and screaming.
…But both of us love it and want to share what we’ve learned with everyone we can.
Between us we ‘get it’. We know how most people feel about this process and how to help them become their best selves. Follow us as we share our lives, our experience and tips and tricks to help you live The Habitap Life.
